Girls QISSN Netball

Day 1
After the Opening Ceremony Sunday evening, the girls had an early start with a 7am game on Monday morning against St Thomas More. With a close half time score of 9-8 unfortunately the girls ended up going down 17-10 . Player of the Match was defensive player, Rachael Dahl. Game 2 saw the BTC girls take on St Joseph's where they played well to come away with a good win of 23-8. Player of the Match was Jaimeen Kenni. The 3rd game was a very entertaining game to watch with the team jelling well to post  a win of 22-14 against St Augustine's. Player of the Match was Madi Smith. In the final game of the day the girls went down to Southern Cross 21-9.  Player of the Match was Jaimeen Kenni. The BTC girls have another 4 games tomorrow before knowing which Division they will be playing in.

Day 2
The girls started the day with a very close game against  Mercy College where the timing of the centre passes and a break in play  for a distressed opposition player to be swapped meant the difference between a win and a loss. BTC went down 19-17. A great game but unfortunately defensive player Rachael Dahl ended with a fractured finger. Player of the Match was Seiarne Reid. With Rachael out of action,  Coach Maher  had to  shuffle her team around and try them in some different positions to find what worked best. Game 2 saw the team against Holy Spirit. The girls played well in a physical encounter but went down 19-7. Player of the Match was Jaimeen. Last game of the pools was against Chanel College which again was physical game with Breana ending up with a broken finger as well.   BTC played well  and kept their cool before going down 17-7 with Amy Neville as Player of the Match .Over all the girls played really well and were competitive for all the games.  Thursday will see the  team start their Division Games. Good luck girls.
( Thanks to Callum Smith and Morgan Rockley for taking photos......with low light  indoors it is a challenge to get clear photos)

Day 4
BTC took on CCC in the quarter final. Talk about a nail biter. At the end of the third quarter BTc was up by 5 goals. In the fourth quarter CCC got  4 quick goals and suddenly it was a 1 goal ball game and then became a tie. It was shot for shot leading into the last 60 seconds. BTC slotted the goal and after winning the ball in the last 25 seconds they played safe netball and made good passes with the hooter heralding their win. Amy Neville received Player of the Match .This win meant the Blackheath girls went into the semi-final against St Francis College. Once again a very physical game with the girls starting well with the first quarter score 3-5.Inconsistent umpire calls made it hard and frustrating  for our girls in the defensive circle and some poor passing saw the score difference widen. The girls dug deep and played a strong  end game  keeping the opposition to only 4 goals in the last quarter. Final hooter had them going down to St Francis 23-14 with Seiarne Reid Player of the Match.  Great job to Rachael and Breana for giving their best, even when injured. Madi needs shin pads for all her floor 'work', Seiarne shoulder pads for the flying opposition taking her out and Bridget a tape measure to give the umpires. Good job girls. Friday will see the girls in the play off for 3rd and 4th.

Final Day
Blackheath girls were up bright and early for their 7am final game against St Mary's from Kingaroy. After a warm up in the car park, while waiting for the doors to be opened, the teams were ready to take the court. The BTC boys came down to support and make a guard of honour for the girls to run through boosted the girls as they waited for the umpires whistle to start their game. After a few early morning errors ,from both teams our girls settled into their game. First quarter saw the scores fairly even with BTC up by 1. The half time score saw BTC up by 5 points.Third quarter they extended the lead to be up by 7 points but it was in the last quarter that they really took control of the game to finish with a convincing win of 32-21. Shooters Amy Neville and Seiarne Reid were on fire with some great displays of accuracy. Seiarne hurt her finger in the second quarter (3 injured fingers now)but strapped it and continued playing. Rachael Dahl and Bridget Ginns-Larkin played good defensive games to continually put pressure on the opposition's shots. Madi Smith ,Katie Williams worked strong in the centre of the court and fed some good passes into the shooters. Jaimeen Kenni, Breana Miller, Shelly Johnstone and Michaela Henry kept pressure on their opposing players to limit the passing and receiving of balls. The girls played good netball to come 3rd in their division. A great  game to finish the carnival on. Thanks to Coach Ms Maher and Manager Dolly for their time and commitment they gave to the team. Thanks also to supporters for cheering the girls on.
