Astronomy and Solar Science

International astronomers visited BTC  to talk to the students about solar science and to allow them to view solar features such as sunspots and flares. The students could initially look through the special dark glasses before looking through the telescopes  and the images on the computer screen. they were shown special beads that changed colour in UV rays. In America , with smog etc the white beads could take about 3 minutes to change to purple. In Charters Towers on  a winter day it took about 5 seconds.that should be enough to convince everyone to wear hats!  The secondary students were also given a slide show presentation in the the Landsberg library.
