Confraternity Rugby League

Finals Day
After a great win on Thursday the boys were to play Ryan Catholic College  for 5th and 6th place in the Bowl competition. After watching Ryan play on Thursday the team knew they would need to play well if wanting to finish the Carnival with a win. With "Gilbo" and "Happy" supporting them again and some constructive words of game play from Zac, Chris Hesp sent his team out to battle. The boys played very strongly in the first half. Early in the half Jack Pickering out stepped a few of his opposition and sprinted off down the sideline. With Anton backing up, Jack passed the ball and Anton streaked to the try line. With the conversion just going wide BTC was 4 points until Ryan quickly answered with a try of their own and a conversion 4-6. Mick Emms took it up hard, making ground, then popped the pass out to Anton who  dived through the defence to try again with Dan converting. 10-6. Still in the first half and BTC was on a roll. Ryan let the ball bounce and Angus Mc Queen capitalised on that mistake and took the ball before sprinting for the try line. 14-6. In the second half  BTC were not as dominant and had to defend a lot of the time. Ryan got on a roll and kept swinging the ball wide  and unbelievably with 5 minutes to go Ryan was leading 20-14. The team knew time was running out for that coveted win. Max Burgess had the ball, did a quick chip kick over the opposition , ran through gathered the ball and sprinted toward the try line. Nothing was stopping Max.To make it even sweeter Max converted his own try to level the scores 20 all. Then statistic man, Michael Gilbert, noted that becuase BTC had got the first try in a tied game that we actually won and got the points.Man of the Match was Angus McQueen. Captain Scott Cerqui presented coach Chris Hesp, Supervisor Byron Souter and Bus Driver Joe Lockyer with appreciation gifts from the team.
What a great way to end. 5th in the Bowl division and 13th in Division 2. The boys were pleased with themselves with many of them acknowledging the fact that most of the team will contend Confraternity again next year. The final cherry on the cake was Mick Emms receiving the Best and Fairest Award for BTC for the Carnival
The boys are booked into Nudgee College for 2012 Confraternity and supporters (who had a great time supporting this year) are also already looking at accommodation. GO IT BLUE 2012.

Day 4      After a rest day on Day 3 where the boys went to Stockland, with a lot of them watching Transformers 3 at the movies, they lined up against  Emmaus 2. It was great to see Old Boy Happy Thompson (who had done some training sessions with the boys) and Old Boy PE Teacher Michael Gilbert  turn up to support the team. They hammered their line consistently in the beginning but were again just denied a try  by some silly errors until finally Angus McQueen  crossed the line. Jack Pickering crossed soon after with Max Burgess converting which took the score to 10- 0. The score remained that way until second half where Emmaus got a quick try and converted . They nearly went in for another try but the boys dug deep and kept them out. Half way through the second half Michael Brown crossed and Dan Webb converted.
16 -6. Emmaus hammered our line in the last 10 minutes. Passages of play saw the ball turned over to Emmaus on a few occassions but BTC once again defended gallantly. Fulltime saw the score at 16-6.The boys were pleased with the result. Anton Wolmby was Man of the Match. Tomorrow they play Ryan College (Townsville) which promises to be a hard game.

Day 2     BTC had some tough games on Day 2. Their first game at 8.30am was against the top team of their pool. They did very well to keep the score to 10-0 which was the lowest score their competitors (St Michaels) had recorded so far.The boys played a good defensive game and were very unlucky not to score after Anton had crossed the line.Anton also did a good kick and chase which was so close to a try.Man of the Match was Mic Emms again. After this round of games teams were reseeded into competition pools. BTC was in the Bowl competition. Unfortunately our first game in this division saw us up against the top team (Chanel V). The boys knew it would be a hard game . After a poor first 5 minutes where Chanel crossed twice and had 10 points, the boys dug deep and kept the game at that score for the rest of the half and up until about 5 minutes to go when Chanel crossed again to take the final score to 16-0. Coach Chris Hesp said that he could not have asked for more from the boys. BTC Old Boys Jonathan Crawley and Zac Santo helped with the team game plan and support. The boys really appreciated their efforts. Man of the Match was Damon Hesp. Only injury was Todd Ellis who reinjured his shoulder. Wednesday is "rest day" with a lot of the team planning to sleep in.
