BTC Interact Leaders Travel to Dili

BTC Interact Leaders, Hayley Whiting and Toby Paynter travelled to Dili  as part of a Rotary  Conference. Both students loved their experience which they found to be extremely rewarding.
Day 1- They visited local Dili markets and visited a school where Rotary is building more toilets  to add to their previous one toilet for an entire school. They were greeted by a traditional dance and received woven scarves. They also visited a Primary school and a rehab centre for malnourished children and mothers.
Day 2- The two BTC ambassadors attended the Rotary Conference and Peace Jam. They were involved in doing a service for the community which included cleaning around the cement.
Day 3- They attended some more of the Peace Jam and walked up the  Aposky Hills. That evening they had a great dinner at a beach front restaurant.
Day 4- After revisiting the local markets and the Dili shopping centre, the locals took them to eat coconut at the beach. Later they climbed to the top of the hill to see the Kristo Rei (Jesus Statue) and an amazing view of the beach below.
Day 5- The last, and best, day which included a visit to a village that was an hours drive away from Dili. Toby and Hayley gave out toys and school books. The children were absolutely ecstatic about getting the toys. They also visited a well which Rotary built, which supplied water to the whole village.

Toby and Hayley presented themselves and the Charters Towers community with pride and have brought home with  them many everlasting memories and experiences. They wish to thank  Rotary for giving them the chance to participate in the Conference.
