Teachers and students from Katano High school in Osaka are visiting Charters Towers and Blackheath and Thornburgh College. The 15 students and 2 teachers arrived Saturday and were met by their host families. Many of the host families organised to take their students to Billabong Sanctuary where cuddling koalas, feeding kangaroos and watching the crocodile feeding were the highlights of the day. The host families and guests all had a great time. Monday saw their first day at school where Mrs Moxham welcomed the students and teachers and presented them with a gift bag each.......the BTC bucket hats were a big hit. The Japanese students and teachers,school buddies and hosts were then treated to a very Australian morning tea. Food included mini pavlovas, anzac biscuits, vegemite sandwiches, lamingtons, cherrios, mini meat pies and suasage rolls with tomato sauce. The visitors loved the selection although I dont think vegemite was a popular snack.
In the afternoon, the group visited Zara Clarke Museum and the Stock Exchange before sightseeing along the main street. Other planned activities include gold panning, a Lissner Park visit(bats included for free) and a walk up to Towers Hill Lookout. Other activities some of the students will get to experience include a rodeo, farm visit and quad bike riding, the Strand and Cowboys football game.
