Duke of Edinburgh Adventurous Journey

BTC Duke of Edinburgh students went on an Adventurous Journey last weekend. They travelled to Camp Barrabadeen on Tinaroo Dam, where they were involved in a lot of activities.
Upon arrival, the tents were set up and the camp was established before the students had a quick explore and collected firewood. Some students threw in a line to catch some fish for dinner..... we had steak. After dinner we went on a Spot light walk to try and see some of the animals at night. Our guide Jason told us many interesting facts about some of the native animals. As we were walking back a snake was spotted , which Jason showed the students and talked about it.

Saturday morning we headed off for abseiling where there were two different rocks the students could choose to abseil down. The students met the challenge and for some overcame their fears to try the activity.  After a quick morning tea there was a rogaining activity which saw the students in groups , armed with a map, take off around the area to find checkpoints.
After lunch the group went canoeing, where they first learnt how to capsize a canoe and how to right it again in both shallow and deep water before canoeing around the peninsula.
Later that evening Jason informed  the group about survival skills and bush tucker .
Sunday, the group packed up camp before hiking up to Bushrangers  Ridge to the lookout.

The group then travelled to Jourama Falls  where we were greeted by the mosquitoes as we set up the tents again. Luckily the mosquitoes lessened after dusk . The next morning we hiked up to Jourama Falls where the group swam in the rockpools to cool off and found a natural water slide. where a lot of fun was had. Finally it was back in the bus to head back to Charters Towers after lunch at the Strand.
The students now have to write up their journal as part of the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
