Rugby Tenz

Finally the long awaited annual Rugby Tenz  Competition was upon us. Teams were chosen, had some training and were ready to take to the field. The 13's trained by Leo West and Roy Valailo had some good games against High school and ASSG. while they did not come away with a win, they played well and have started playing as a cohesive unit. Some good strong runs by Isaiah, Louie  and Liam and fancy footwork by Ben and good backing up by Ethan. The 15's, trained by Mr Manning played High School and CCC with them posting a win against  CTSHS but going down to CCC. Once again some good football was played and the boys can be proud of the effort they put in. Mitch ,Sam and Jay had some good runs. (There are not many photos of the 15's because their games were later and light was not good....sorry)The Open Boys who were trained by Mr O'Rourke played against High School and ASSG. In a 10 minute each half the game is fast with little room for errors and penalties.   With a slippery try by Jack,we posted first points against CTSHS  but the fast footed winger of CTSHS  edged his team to a win. The game against ASSG saw the Thornburgh boys keen for a win. They played well and going into 2nd half were just up 7-5. Some sloppy defence saw the ASSG boys scoot for a try out wide to win the game 10-7. Damien Bige was awarded the Player of the Open Boys Competition.
The Open Girls, trained by Miss West and Max Batt played against ASSG and CCC. Their first game saw them take the lead with a try by Merial and keep this lead to post a win. the second game against CCC  had the girls fired up right from the first whistle to convincingly beat the opposition great defence by Breana and Merial.  The BTC were then to play ASSG in the final on Saturday.  First points were posted by BTC with a try from Shelly and  Jaime converted the kick. Madi crossed for another try to take the score to 12 nil.  ASSG fought back with a try which was unconverted. The BTC girls dug deep and continued to work hard as a team led by captain Jemimah. A try in the corner by Etta,  saw the full time score 17-5 with the BTC  team the  champions for the Open Girls Rugby Tenz Competition. Merial  Kenni was named the Open Girls Player of  Carnival. Well done girls!
