Interschool Swimming Carnival

After a postponement in the final events of the Carnival , the schools gathered at the pool last Tuesday. Light rain fell at the start and thunder and lightning started to threaten but thankfully it all cleared away to allow the carnival to proceed. In the 50m free Keesha Whyte set the tone for her competition by resoundingly taking the first position in the first race of the night. Madi Smith followed in the14yrs girls by touching first and in the 15yrs boys , Darcy Ginns-Larkin broke the Interschool record when he claimed a first. In the 16yrs competition Elissa Marsterson claimed a 4th while Harrison Phillott powered through the water to touch 2nd behind CCC while Toby Paynter touched a credible 5th. In the Open events, Morgan Williams claimed a 2nd while Callum Smith took first place with Harry Campbell claiming 3rd.
In the Breast stroke events  top BTC finishers included Keesha Whyte (1st), Madi Smith (1st) Darcy- Ginns Larkin (1st) Elissa Marsterson (3rd) Toby Paynter (2nd) Harrison Phillott (4th) Morgan Williams (4th) Callum Smith (1st) Scott Cerqui (4th)

Top finishers in the backstroke were Keesha Whyte (1st) Madi Smith (2nd) Darcy Ginn-Larkin (1st) Elissa Marsterson (4th) Harrison Phillott (2nd) Callum Smith (1st) Harry Campbell (3rd).
The last 50m individual event was the butterfly. Stand out swims included  Keesha Whyte (2nd) Madalyn Weicks (3rd) Madi Smith (3rd) Darcy Ginns-Larkin (1st) Elissa Marsterson (3rd) Harrison Phillott (2nd) Callum Smith (1st) Harry Campbell (3rd).
In the final event (100 free) before the relays students still put in big swims; Keesha Whyte (1st), Madi Smith (1st) Darcy Ginns-Larkin (1st) Elissa Marsterson (4th)  Harrison Phillott (2nd) Jess Batt (4th) Callum Smith (1st) Harry Campbell 2nd).
Relays saw a scrambling of swimmers to make teams and works out swimming order. In the Medley relays  13 yrs girls were just touched out by CCC to take 3rd position while the 13yrs boys, 14 yrs girls and boys , 15 yrs  and 16yrs girls all claimed 3rd as well. The 15 yrs boys powered to a 2nd place as did 16yrs boys and the Open Girls. The Open Boys had the BTC supporters on their feet. After Callum Smith powered away in the backstroke leg to give the team a 20m head start, Scott Cerqui churned back up the pool in his breast stroke leg to hold the lead, with Harry Campbell diving in for the butterfly leg and keeping the lead before handing over to Josiah Phillott to bring it home to seal a convincing win. I have on good authority that this team has not lost a Medley relay since starting swimming in the Secondary competition 5 years ago.
In the Freestyle relays we saw similar placings to the Medley relays with the Open Boys just being touched out by ASSG to claim 2nd. However, with the ASSG boys leaving the water before the event had finished, they could have been disqualified (as other swimmers had been earlier in the evening) but the BTC Boys showing GREAT SPORTSMANSHIP deferred to the disqualification and let the opposition take the prize. Well done boys I would like to think the other schools would have done the same if the ‘tables were turned’!
The BTC crowd were great supporters, cheering  the swimmers on  every stroke of the way. Thanks!!

Overall results for the Carnival saw BTC claim 4 Age Champions: Keesha Whyte (13 Yrs Girls) Madi Smith (14yrs Girls) Darcy Ginns-Larkin (15yrs Boys) Callum Smith ( Open Boys). While Runner ups were not announced on the night Harrison Phillott would have been runner up in the 16yrs Boys.
