Primary Interschool Athletics Carnival
Charters Towers Primary students descended on ASSG for the 2011 Interschool Athletics Carnival. The first race of the day was 800m. Then while the 10-13year olds started field events the U 9years ran their sprints heats and finals and relays. Darby Butler ran a strong sprint to come 1st. Other placings in the finals were Laney Mc Grath (8th), Ronan Keevers (8th), Poppy Prichard (3rd),Hayden Gallagher (6th), Harry Mintram (8th). Dan Marshall was the most entertaining runner as he looked through the end of the relay baton, like a telescope, while running in his infants relay. In the field events BTC had some good individual efforts with Jessee Santo 1st in long jump, 2nd in high jump and 4th in shotput,Brianna Innes pushing the shot put to secure a credible 1st place, Teearni Stagg also recieved a 3rd for her shotput, while Georgia Mintram jumped into 4th place in the high jump. The 10 years and over sprints produced the only record broken for the day and proudly it was BTC's Jesse Santo to break the 24 year old record in her blistering 13.50 secs 100m sprint which shaved a massive.37secs off the previous record. Other standout individual efforts in the 100m sprint finals were Angela Spreadborough (5th), Connor Neville(6th), Takumi Kuwajima (5th) and Teearni Stagg (4th). The 200 m sprints saw Jesse Santo break away from the field again to comfortably cross 1st while Connor Neville (5th), Takumi Kuwajima (4th), Jack McQueen (6th) and Teearni Stagg (4th) also ran well. In the relays the Open Girls came away with a 2nd place. Overall BTC came 2nd in the Average trophy and 5th in the Aggregate trophy . Jessee Santo was 11 year Age Champion and was selected in the Charters Towers Athletics team to compete at the NQ Championships.
