BTC students recently returned from their trip to Canberra. On their first day they visited Parliament House and got to visit Bob Katter's office. Jim left his BTC hat at Parliament House so next time we see Bob Katter on the TV we may see the Akubra replaced by the BTC day hat! They also went to Cockington Green where the world is miniaturised. They got to visit the world on a train ride.At Old Parliament House Madi and Jim got to "dress up" like parliament members and give a speech. That night there was a ten -pin bowling challenge. On Wednesday they visited the AIS which was the highlight for many of the students..."Miss we liked the miniature things and we liked the Parliament house and stuff but this was really cool". There were lots of games for them to test their skills. After a tour of the Embassies they went to CSIRO where there were lots of hands on Science activities. Ice skating that night was a treat for many, although most found the ice a bit hard.......Thursday saw a visit to the National Zoo and Aquarium where they got to go behind the scenes of the cougar den, handle a snake, feed an emu as well as watch giraffes, lions and bears get fed. In the afternoon they visited the War Memorial . In one part they watched a light show that made the audience feel like they were in an old Bomber plane . They ended the trip to the War Memorial by watching the Memorial Ceremony at 5pm. After dinner was a trip to the movies to see Despicable Me which everyone enjoyed. On the last day there was a visit to Questacon ,which was the ulimate fun, hands-on science experience, before going to the airport to start their trip home. At 6pm a busload of weary but happy travellers arrived back at BTC. A big thanks to Ms Beauchamp and Mrs Cerqui for taking the students.
