Junior School Excursion to the Museum of Tropical Qld.

All Junior staff and students excitedly headed off to Townsville for a visit to the Museum of Tropical Qld.Year 6 students had to spot several landmarks on the way while other students passed the time chatting. Upon arrival at the museum, the students had a picturesque morning tea on a grassy area of the museum , beside Ross River where the students also enjoyed looking at the boats.
A re-enactment of being on the boat Pandora was experienced by several students. They had to load and ram the cannon, heave the cannon forward, flex their muscles then line up the cannon and fire. If they hit the target, red lights lit up.
The students were then separated into grades and they moved around the many displays. The undersea playground was popular and a short movie about the sinking of the Pandora was informative.The Pandora story was displayed vividly....in more ways than one.....some bare bottom were seen at the pool deck area where statues showed that the sailors did not swim with togs on! The head on a plate was a funny illusion while there were also a lot of touch displays. The rainforest display was magical, although the bird eating spider scared a few people. The display showing how to make monsters and how to make gorillas work in movies was fascinating.
A great time was had by all with no one wanting to go home, although the icecream (Courtesy of P&F) enticed them away and  back on the buses for the trip home. Thank you to Ms Fry for organising the day.
