Students, staff, parents and friends gathered at Blackthorn Hall to celebrate 96 years since the College first opened . Principal Mr Nigel Fairbairn spoke of the history of the beginning of Blackheath and Thornburgh Schools and how they joined to become Blackheath and Thornburgh College with a combined crest. Past students Sean Tria and Jaimeen Kenni combined with present students Merial Kenni and Selai Mautaia to present an entertaining musical item. Guest speaker was Taylor Smith , Thornburgh Captain in 2009 and Jetstar pilot, who spoke of his memories of his 12 years at the College and the career path he as taken since finishing Senior. College Captains Sevese and Madi spoke of some traditions and customs the College has had. Mr Fairbairn congratulated and presented certificates to students who have represented North Qld in their chosen sport.-Merial Kenni-Netball,Mitch Fogarty-Rugby League, Brennan Leggett-Rugby Union and Sevese Morea- Volleyball.
Students who had received Half Colours or Full Colours for extra curricular achievements were congratulated by Mr Bowden, Miss McAllister and Mr Fairbairn.
